Storage costs

How much does storage cost in Mumbai? What to compare

There is no single price for storage in Mumbai. What you pay depends on how the provider charges (by space, by box or by item), where you are, how long you store and whether pickup is included. Here is how to compare options sensibly.

Three ways storage is priced

  • By space: you rent a unit or an area, usually sized in square feet. Good for lots of furniture and boxes. You typically transport your things yourself.
  • By box or by volume: you pay for each box or for a set amount of volume. Good for lots of small, similar items.
  • By item: you pay for each item, based on its size. Good when you have a handful of different things, such as a camera, a guitar and a suitcase. This is how RentMint works.

What else changes the price

  • Pickup and delivery: included, charged separately or not offered.
  • Minimum term: month to month, or a minimum of several months.
  • Packing materials and handling fees.
  • Insurance: included, optional or not available.
  • Access: whether you can visit, or you request returns.

Questions to ask any storage provider

  1. Is there a minimum period, and how much notice do I need to leave?
  2. What are the pickup, delivery and return charges?
  3. How are my items recorded, and how will I know where they are?
  4. Is insurance included or available?
  5. What conditions are items kept in, especially during the monsoon?
  6. What can I not store?
  7. How do I get my things back, and how quickly?

RentMint's prices

RentMint charges per item, per month, with no lock-in: Small ₹99, Medium ₹199 and Large ₹349. Pickup and return charges, if any, are confirmed on WhatsApp before we collect. Each item is photographed on intake, tagged with its own QR code and sealed, and you can ask for it back any time. We do not offer insurance yet, so please do not store anything irreplaceable.

Which is right for you?

If you are clearing a whole flat, a storage unit or full-service household storage may suit you better. If you only have a few things you rarely use, per-item storage is usually simpler, and you pay only for what you store. See storage in Mumbai for the areas we collect from.
